Alatyr Tear & H.K

Project.

This project draws inspiration from the process behind making Hakari, merging it with H.K.’s concept of a portable light. The goal is to push both ideas further, blending the reliability and versatility of a portable light with the warmth, brightness, and atmosphere of a stationary lamp. The result is a design that bridges functionality and ambiance, offering a lighting solution that adapts to both movement and stillness.

Design.

Alatyr tear is a two-part light that can be separated for functionality. The top part of the light is portable and can be carried around and used in different environments. The base is the secondary light that has built-in handles so the light can be moved with little effort.

Getting to this point was only possible because I was told to take the Hakari idea further than what I had. When the project concept was pitched, it was well regarded but needed some improvement, and I am happy with Alatyr Tear. Hakari had the light source peering its form, so I took it further to take that concept and add two more to it. Coming up with the form was the best part, seeing as it came to me randomly while playing with Rhino.

The inspiration for Alatyr & H.K. came from the idea of the sword in the stone meets modern household appliance tech.
