Project overview
Create any hand held that had a use and targeted a specific consumer and their choice of design. Create multiple rounds or prototypes using my material of choice for low-fidelity designs. The final model needed to be made from a different material than the one used for low-fidelity models, and if possible, to make the handheld work in some aspect.
Design.
A blast from my past, as this work is one of the very first projects for Industrial Design that has been reworked. H.K. is inspired by “Star Wars” Lightsaber, Fishing hooks, lanterns, and brutalist architecture.
I had an incredibly enjoyable experience working on the project. It is my final project from my very first industrial design class. I came up with the concept before I knew how to make models on Rhino or SolidWorks. However, I now have the skills to make the H.K. look better than before. After rethinking the idea a bit further for taking H.K. to the next level, the shape evolved from a complex, hook-like shape to a soft, carabiner-like hook. The models in the portfolio are new; the model I made back when I worked in the class is no longer with me. A little bit of a spoiler for the next project, but H.K. will play a part in Alatyr Tear.

Key Insights
It can be used as a stationary light source and hung to provide a light source from above. It is rechargeable, so the product reduces E-waste every time the H.K. is fully recharged. The H.K. features Bluetooth, allowing users to control the light from a distance. Additionally, users can choose from a color wheel via the app, enabling them to stylize their ambiance.
Features: Hangs on poles, which is perfect for hanging this light in a closet with no light. Rechargeable and Portable for easy transfer to different locations, this Bright LED light features adjustable brightness and color settings.
Human Factor Features: Ergonomically shaped to reduce hand strain, offering a secure grip without requiring excessive force, Constructed from durable, impact-resistant plastic to withstand accidental drops and everyday wear. Enables rideshare requests directly from the device, eliminating the need to navigate a smartphone, especially useful in impaired states. Rechargeable design reduces the need for disposable batteries, helping minimize environmental impact. Features an intuitive, straightforward interface designed for ease of use, even when motor skills or judgment may be impaired.
